Koh Gabriel Kameda
Music Director and founder of the Tokyo Chamber Philharmonic, Koh Gabriel Kameda is a remarkable musician whose multifaceted career crosses artistic boundaries and covers a wide gamut of musical styles. He is a prominent violinist who has appeared both as recitalist and orchestral soloist in major music capitals throughout the world; being a respected guest soloist with such renowned orchestras as the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and many more. Under his leadership, as both conductor of and soloist with the Tokyo Chamber Philharmonic, he will be open the Tokyo Chamber Philharmonic's First Season in 2006 with a specially created program the "Eight Seasons".
A student of Josef Rissin at the Univeristy of Music in Karlsruhe,Germany, Mr.Kameda quickly established himself as one of Germany's emerging violinists by making his orchestral debut with the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra in 1988. Soon afterward he appeared as guest soloist in Germany with the orchestras of Kaiserslautern, Freiburg, Hagen, Karlsruhe and Berlin, followed by extensive touring throughout Europe, Asia,North and South America, appearing with orchestras such as the National Symphony of Ireland, the Hungarian Philharmonic, the Symphony Orchestra of the Belgium Radio and Television, the Symphony Orchestra of the Austrian Television, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, the Thailand Philharmonic, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Amazons, the Symphony Orchestra of Porto Alegre, the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra among many others. Mr.Kameda launched his ensemble-leading career in a performance of the World Premiere of Astor Piazzolla's Tango Violin Concerto, arranged by Peter von Wienhardt with the Ensemble Sihlau, Zurich, in 2000. The success of this ensemble's work in preceding years encouraged Mr.Kameda to establish the Tokyo Chamber Philharmonic in early 2006.
Mr.Kameda has made a number of recordings on his own label (kameda-music) of works ranging from Tartini, Dvorak and Paganini to Prokofiev, Piazzolla and Korngold, as well as producing a DVD of orchestral pieces by Tchaikovsky, Piazzolla and Ravel which were recorded during a Tour of France in 2005 with the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra.
Mr.Kameda has been decorated with the European Foundation for Culture prize,the German Cultural Foundation Award, as well as the New Comber Award from the Zelt-Musik-Festival in Freiburg, and has also been a recipient of the Jürgen Ponto Foundation in Frankfurt and the Mozart Society in Dortmund in 2006. Koh Gabriel Kameda is a gold medal and 1st prize winner of the Henryk Szeryng International Violin Competition in Mexico.
He is a musician of conscience whose humanistic activities have been covered in a TV documentary made by TV TOKYO concerning his ongoing voluntary concerts for hospitals.
Mr.Kameda, of German and Japanese descent,is a citizen of both countries and has made his home in Frankfurt, Germany as well as in Tokyo, Japan.
